Former Test batsman Dilip Sardesai has been admitted to the Bombay Hospital for chest infection and is recovering from his illness, according to hospital sources.
"Sardesai is undergoing treatment for chest infection. He was serious when he got admitted but has made good progress and is stable now. He's still in ICU for observation," said hospital spokesperson Dr Ashish Tiwari.
According to sources close to the 66-year-old, Sardesai had been admitted to the hospital earlier this week.
Sardesai, who turns 67 on August 8, played 30 Tests between 1961 and 1973, amassing just over 2000 runs with five centuries to boot, including an innings of 212, at an average of just under 40.
The steady batsman is best remembered for the stellar role he played with Sunil Gavaskar in piloting India to a historic first Test as well as series victory over the West Indies in the Caribbean islands in 1971 under Ajit Wadekar.
