Manoj Tiwary, who returned home from the Bangladesh tour after suffering a shoulder injury, will undergo surgery after scans on Saturday revealed a tear, thus ruling him out of cricket for three to four weeks.
Tiwary, who sustained the injury during a fielding practice session before the first One-Day International against Bangladesh, will be operated upon May 14, a statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India said.
It added that MRI scans were conducted on Tiwary in Mumbai which revealed "a tear of antero inferior labrum".
The young cricketer was examined by Dr Anant Joshi, who will carry out the arthroscopic surgery as well.
"Post surgery, he is likely to be in a sling for three to four weeks and will then require rehab before full function can be achieved," the Board said.
Tiwary, who was on his first tour with the team in Bangladesh, had to come back without playing a single match. His right shoulder apparently came out and had to be relocated by team physio John Gloster.
