The start of play on Day 2 in the first Test between India and Bangladesh in Chittagong on Saturday was delayed because of rain.

There was a steady drizzle through the night, but it rained heavily this morning for over an hour in the port city of Chittagong. Though the rain stopped at around 0900 IST, play could not get underway because of heavy waterlogging at many areas on the ground.

Both the teams stayed put in their hotels.

The umpires carried out a second inspection of the pitch and outfield at 1430 IST, after the covers were removed in bright sunshine at 1215 IST, and said it is possible that play could commence in 30 minutes.

Already, 13 overs were lost on Day 1 because of rain during the lunch break on Friday.

Electing to bat, India are in a comfortable position, having posted 295 for 3 in 77 overs.
