The Board of Control for Cricket in India may have gagged Dilip Vengsarkar from airing his views to the media or writing a newspaper column, but its selection committee chief appears to have defied the order.

Vengsarkar continues to write a column 'Cover Drive' in newspapers, notably the Marathi daily Sakal, owned by the brother of BCCI chief Sharad Pawar. The latest column appeared on Thursday.

Asked whether the ban on writing a newspaper column applies only to English language newspapers, a BCCI source replied, "No, it applies to all languages".

Confirming that Vengsarkar has been asked not to write columns, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said, "He has been told not to write his column. If it's brought to our notice [that he's still writing the column] we will look into it."

On Wednesday, Vengsarkar did not address the customary media conference after the selection of the Indian Test team for the first two Tests against Pakistan.
