Pakistan fast bowler Rana Naved was taken to hospital after being badly injured while fielding for Sussex in their county championship match at Durham on Wednesday.

"He ran full tilt for a ball on the boundary and slid along his front," the county said on their web site.

"He immediately cried out and rolled on to his back at which point it became clear he was not right. He seems in a lot of pain, the area seems to be his right shoulder, maybe arm, but is not clear at all, this is mere speculation."

Naved, 29, was given oxygen and treated by paramedics before being carried off on a stretcher.

Play was suspended for more than 40 minutes as several players, including compatriot and Sussex team mate Mushtaq Ahmed, stayed with Naved while he was being treated.

"His screams are very disturbing," said the web site. "We believe it could be a collar bone problem as well as a dislocation."

Naved, who has played nine Tests and 62 one-dayers for Pakistan, was motionless for 10 minutes and was still there when an ambulance drove across the field.
