Gautam Gambhir's mother Seema is not complaining that her son's contribution, an invaluable 75 in Monday's final against archrivals Pakistan, has not been given the importance it deserves.
"I am not complaining. He has done his job and that is what matters to me. If my son's contribution brings glory to the nation then so be it," Seema Gambhir told rediff.com in an exclusive conversation on Tuesday.
Deepak and Seema, Gautam's parents, are now planning to reach Mumbai on Wednesday to join their son in celebration for winning the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa.
"We are still in two minds whether to reach Mumbai or wait for him at home. But our relatives are pushing us to go," she said.
She admitted that she skipped a heartbeat when Misbah-ul-Haq hit Joginder Sharma for a six on the second ball of the last over. "I thought that the second one too was going for a six but I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw S Sreesanth take the catch and helped India lift the trophy," Seema said.
Mother and son had a brief chat before the crucial tie where she gave her blessings and asked him to give his best.
"Once the team had won the match he was so excited that he could barely express his feelings. He was overjoyed. After all you don't win a World Cup everyday," she said.
