Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene on Wednesday said his side lost the plot in the first 45 minutes and the top order collapse left them 30 runs short of a defendable target in the second one-dayer against India.

"We could not get through the initial 45 minutes and lost four early wickets for 11 runs. That changed the whole situation, the batsmen will have to take the responsibility," Jayawardene said after his side lost by three wickets.

"When we went in to bat, we always thought 175 would have been a great score on this wicket and that was our target. We knew that we had to make sure that we don't lose too many wickets upfront, keep the wickets in hand and drag the game as much as possible, but we fail to execute our plans," he added.

The home team captain said the partnership between MS Dhoni and S. Badrinath took the game away from them.

"We know Badri is a talented batsman and a very busy player. He batted well for a debutant. We knew his abilities during the IPL. He handled the situation very well. He had Dhoni on the other end and they rotated the strike."

Jayawardene said the team management did not field Chaminda Vaas as a precautionary measure after the veteran bowler suffered a tight hamstring during the first one-dayer.

"We did not want to risk him. We have back to back games and the Champions Trophy coming up. So we did not want to risk any serious injury. It was a precautionary measure not to play him today," he said.
