The inaugural edition of the Champions League [ Images ] Twenty20 [ Images ] tournament has been cancelled. A statement from the organisers said the tournament will now be held in October 2009.
Originally scheduled to be played in Mumbai [ Images ], Bangalore and Chennai from December 3 to 10, 2008 it was postponed in view of the terror attacks on Mumbai on November 26.
Lalit Modi [ Images ], chairman, Champions League Twenty20 and BCCI vice-president, said, "The inaugural edition of the Champions League Twenty20 will now be held in India [ Images ] in October 2009. The Governing Council, comprising the founder Board members took this collective decision after taking into account all aspects."
The Governing Council, comprising the founder Board members -- Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia [ Images ] and Cricket South Africa [ Images ] -- took the decision after considering all aspects including the international calendar and the domestic schedules of the participating teams, the statement added.
Six teams -- two from each of the founding Board members -- are confirmed as participants. Other participating teams will be finalised by the end of January 2009.
Invitations will be extended to the winners/finalists of the respective countries' domestic Twenty20 tournaments of the participating countries.
