Chennai Superstars, title winners of the inaugural Indian Cricket League 20-20 cricket tournament in Panchkula in Chandigarh in December last, made the final grade of the Essel Group's first domestic 50-over-a-side tourney and will clash with Delhi Jets on Sunday.
In the last of the league matches in Chennai on Friday among the six teams in the fray, Chandigarh Lions, in a must win situation, were edged out by Kolkata Tigers.
Batting first, Chandigarh Lions recovered from a shaky 2 for 16 and posted a sizeable total of 272 for seven in 50 overs.
Kolkata Tigers ,thanks to an unbeaten 67 of 82 balls by Rohan Gavaskar and 45 not out by AN Ahmed, romped home making 273 for seven in 49 overs. Former India -player Dinesh Mongia starred with a superb knock of 108 (6 fours and 4 sixes) for Chandigarh.
