His match-winning knock against Sri Lanka on Friday may have given him a "perfect" farewell at the WACA but retiring Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist said it would count for nothing if his side fails to rein in a rampaging Indian team in the ongoing tri-series.

Gilchrist said he was concerned about the Sunday match against India in Adelaide.

"Today was a perfect day but it counts for little as we have a tough game against India coming up," he said.

"I am obviously very pleased to get a hundred today in my final game at the WACA but I am equally focused on the match against India in Adelaide. They have been playing some fantastic cricket and we are obviously looking forward to wrestle back the momentum from them.

"I have been thoroughly enjoying the experience of getting warm receptions wherever we are playing... but I don't want my retirement to become the be all and end all in this series. We have to focus on the games ahead and India is a very tough opponent," he added.

Match Report

On Friday's match and his uncharacteristically fighting knock, Gilchrist said he felt more nervous than ever before while coming out to bat at the WACA and was emotionally overwhelmed.

"I was really really nervous. In fact I have never felt more nervous than what I felt today. In a way I am pleased that it's done here. The reception I got was amazing and terrific," he said.

Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardane and his Australian counterpart Ricky Ponting were effusive in their praise of the affable stumper-batsman.

Jayawardane said he would have loved to have the left-hander in his own team rather than bear the brunt of his explosive batting.

"On quite a few occasions he has been a menace for us. He is one of those players ... you want to see his back as soon as possible. You want to have him in the team but on days like this you wish he wasn't playing," he quipped.

Ponting also showered praise on the opener, whose every hundred has resulted in an Australian win.

"Gilly has been playing beautifully and he was terrific today," he said.
