Board of Control for Cricket in India vice-president Rajiv Shukla clarified on Wednesday that the BCCI would not interfere in the latest controversy in which Australian batsman Mathew Hayden labelled Harbhajan Singh as an "obnoxious little weed".
"The Board has taken note of the comment. So has the Australian Cricket Board that has decided to take up the matter seriously. The BCCI has decided not to intervene and leave it on the Indian team management to decide the issue and sort it out," Shukla said in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Shukla confirmed that the players have been asked to keep their emotions in check and not get provoked on the field.
"We have asked the players to concentrate on their game and not get provoked by such statements. One or two players have made it a habit to get involved in controversies," he said.
Shukla said the BCCI believe that the best way to reply to the Australians is to perform on the field and win matches. He also ruled out any adverse impact on diplomatic ties between the two nations because of the frequent disputes on the cricketing field.
