Australia will go flat out for a win in the second cricket Test on Sunday, according to centurion Matthew Hayden, who reckons that the Indian batsmen would find the going tough in the last innings on a "difficult" SCG track.
"I think we would try and win this Test. I also think we are very capable of doing it. It's not an easy wicket and we would really make it difficult for Indians in this Test," the burly left-hander said after the fourth day's play.
Hayden, who scored a splendid 123 to take the Australian lead to 213 by the end of the fourth day, said the pitch was not very conducive for batting.
"Obviously as an Australia player, you look to score quickly the runs you need to score. It's a difficult wicket, I have never played a reverse sweep ever before in my life."
Hayden did not know what target would suffice against the Indians but he confirmed his team would make a determined bid to secure their 16th consecutive Test win.
"I think we would try and win this game. Australia is in a slightly stronger position. We would try to step up scoring tomorrow. Then it can become difficult for the Indians. It's not an easy wicket," he said.
However, the world record was not at the forefront of the players' minds.
"We don't care too much about the 16th win. If it happens, great," Hayden said.
Hayden completed his 29th century during the day and like anyone before who had reached the landmark, he bowed his head in appreciation of the man he equalled.
"Don (Bradman) was incredible. I do feel privileged that I have touched Bradman." He was all praise for the Indian spinners though he thought they were bowling a negative line.
"The spinners bowled very well trying to put us under pressure with the tactics of bowling wide to us," Hayden said.
He suffered a sore right leg for a long part of his innings and skipper Ricky Ponting came in as a runner for him.
"Luckily, there is a lot of time before the third Test. Hopefully, I will be fit for Perth," he added.
