West Indies took their first innings total to 255 for four in reply to Australia's 479 for seven declared on a rain-shortened third day of the second Test against West Indies on Sunday.
Only 36 overs were possible following heavy overnight rain and the hosts batted confidently after resuming on 125 for three. Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan was the only batsman out, caught at slip off Stuart MacGill for 65.
The rain continued into the morning session and left the outfield soggy. Despite the return of good weather at lunch, no play was possible until after tea, much to the evident frustration of Australia captain Ricky Ponting who spent much of the time pacing the outfield.
During the long delay, leg-spinner Stuart MacGill announced he would be retiring from international cricket at the end of the match.

Re-introduced into the attack, he again bowled a number of loose deliveries but produced a fine ball to get rid of Sarwan who edged a turning ball to Michael Clarke.
MacGill's form has been poor on this tour and his failure to recover his accuracy following a wrist operation in December was a key factor in his decision to retire.
Sarwan had been looking in good shape as he made 65 and his departure opened up the middle-order to a potentially tricky session. But Dwayne Bravo (29 not out) joined the typically solid Shivnarine Chanderpaul (55 not out) to make sure there were no more losses before the close.
