Ponting slams bowlers after draw

Australia captain Ricky Ponting admitted his team's attack was "not good enough" to bowl out West Indies on the final day of the drawn second Test in Antigua on Tuesday.

West Indies batted all day for the loss of five wickets to avoid defeat in a game Australia dominated with Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul sharing a particularly stubborn partnership.

"I made all those bowling changes today just trying to get the partnership broken and then we could have brought the quicks back and exposed their new batsmen to the reverse swing but we just couldn't get that breakthrough we needed," Ponting told reporters.

"Chanderpaul and Sarwan played very well today, I thought. Our bowlers toiled manfully all day but we just weren't good enough.

"We didn't bowl well enough today when it really mattered to win a Test."

Australia have lost the services of retired leg-spinner Shane Warne and fast bowler Glenn McGrath in the past 18 months and spinner Stuart MacGill played his last Test on Tuesday after a very disappointing tour.

Seamers Brett Lee and Stuart Clark have contributed five-wicket hauls in the series but with MacGill struggling and Mitchell Johnson yet to fire, Ponting's options have been limited.

"It certainly is a challenge, when you haven't got some of the other guys who have been around. It is a great challenge for me but more importantly it's a challenge for the bowlers to stand up and make a name for themselves as being very good test bowlers," said Ponting.

Ponting said he is looking forward to the likely debut of left-arm wrist spinner Beau Casson in the third Test.

"The next spinner is the interesting one for me. We'll see how that all pans out," he said.
