Vettori strikes put Bangladesh under pressure

New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori took three Bangladesh wickets in one over as the hosts slumped to 13 for three at the close of the fourth day of the rain-affected second Test against in Chittagong on Tuesday.

New Zealand declared their first innings on 262 for six midway through the final session with Jesse Ryder (91) and Brendon McCullum (66) hitting half-centuries.

In his only over, Vettori had Zunaed Siddique stumped by McCullum, dismissed his counterpart Mohammad Ashraful leg before and then also trapped Rajin Saleh in front of his wicket.

Rain washed out the first three days and New Zealand, 1-0 up in the two-match series after their three-wicket victory in Chittagong last week, were put in to bat after play was delayed a further hour as ground staff repaired the soggy outfield.

The tourists lost three wickets in an eventful morning session as the Bangladesh pace attack exploited the damp pitch.

The innings was steadied by a stand of 137 for the fourth wicket between Ryder and McCullum.

Ryder fell nine runs short of a maiden Test century when he was caught at square-leg by Mehrab Hossain off left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak. He faced 140 balls and hit 12 boundaries.

Resuming on 198-4 after tea, New Zealand lost two more wickets with McCullum caught at midwicket by Ashraful off a delivery from spinner Shakib Al Hasan. Vettori was then bowled for 22. Daniel Flynn hit an unbeaten 35 before the declaration came.
