Pressure is back on India, says Hayden

Australia opener Matthew Hayden feels the pressure is back on India with the tourists comfortably placed in their reply to India's mammoth first innings total of 613 for 7 declared.

"The pressure is back on India. They put on 600-plus score but we will be able to chase it tomorrow," Hayden said after Australia posted 338 for four on the third day of the crucial third cricket Test at the Ferozshah Kotla on Friday.

"It was a very good day for use; we put on a 300-plus score and we are confident of our batting order to come," he added.

Hayden said the wicket has started to spin but the Aussies are up to the challenge.

"We are very confident. We've good batting line-up to come, good players of spin bowling. Not necessarily every ball is turning huge but there is lot of variations and some balls are turning really big," he said.

About the absence of Harbhajan Singh, Hayden said, "Obviously, it's a big loss for the Indian camp, no question about that. Anil (Kumble) bowled admirably today and provided he comes back tomorrow, it would be a good challenge."

Hayden also praised India's strategy to allow Virender Sehwag have a go with the new ball.

"It was an interesting strategy to bowl spin with Sehwag with the new ball. The new ball is harder and bounces more. The morning session -- as it always happens in any Test -- tomorrow is going to set up the course of the match," he said.

"The first one-and-half hours will be crucial tomorrow and it's going to be a challenge. We will call on the experience of the two batsmen batting now (Michael Clarke and (Shane Watson)," he added.

Hayden lauded Sehwag for taking three wickets.

"He bowled exceptionally well. He utilised the conditions as good as any other bowler. If (wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh) Dhoni had not taken a helmet, Sehwag would have hit him in the face. He was spinning it so aggressively. He is an enormous turner of the ball, after Harbhajan," he said.

On curbing his aggressive strokeplay and playing a patient knock, the left-hander said, "Today I set myself to bat for a long time. I was very, very relaxed.

"With (putting on) 600 on the board, it required more of the traditional approach, waiting and taking advantage of the loose balls.

"In Mohali, I was aggressive because I sensed my best scoring chances were in the first 15 overs, before the ball got old and started both spinning and reverse swinging," he said.

Hayden admitted it was disappointing that four Australian batsmen missed centuries but said the effort would be on tomorrow.

"Of course, it's disappointing, everyone would have liked to score a ton. I hope it would happen tomorrow. The more we spend time in the middle, the more we can hurt India," he said.
