Seasoned Pakistan batsman Mohammad Yousuf has questioned his continued omission from Pakistan's Twenty20 team after being left off a shortlist for next month's four-nation tournament in Toronto, Canada.
Yousuf, who has played 79 Tests and 269 one-dayers, said the selectors could ask any respected former captain whether he was fit to play Twenty20 cricket.
"You go and ask great players like Wasim Akram and Inzamam-ul-Haq if I don't deserve to play Twenty20 cricket. If they say I should be dropped then I will quit all cricket," Yousuf told the Daily Jang on Friday.
"I just don't understand what criteria there is for selecting the Twenty20 players, he said, adding that he believed he was the best batsman in the Pakistan team.
Mansoor Sohail, a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman, said Yousuf's comments were out of turn.
"He is a great batsman no doubt about it, but his criticism is unwarranted and the selectors know what is best for the team," he said.
The 34-year-old Yousuf will lead one of the teams in the domestic Twenty20 championship from October 4, which he said was to prove he can play the shortest form of the game.
