Australia's Test record is exceptionalM J Manohar Rao, Srinivas Bhogle
Australia appear to be on the back foot as they start their Ashes campaign, but their Test record remains truly outstanding. Only South Africa have defeated them at 'home', and their only 'away' series losses have been to England and India. So Australia will have to play really badly -- and Kevin Pietersen will have to play really well -- if there is to be an upset.
England started the season with a 2-0 series sweep against West Indies; but one doesn't expect Ricky Ponting to give up as easily as Chris Gayle.
Australia (78.08) remain on top of the Rediff Test Rankings while England (49.71) are fourth. The latest rankings appear in Table A.
