Rediff Bol
is a whole new way to communicate instantly with your friends online.
You can chat, check your mail, search the web and stay in touch.
Instant Messaging is a combination of chat and email. You can send messages to your friends who are online at the same time as you. They will be able to see your messages in real time and reply to them just as in a real conversation. Additionally, you can talk hold multiple conversations, each unique and private.
What is the difference between using Rediff Bol and chatting?
Talking with Rediff Bol is very similar to chatting, but there are some key differnces. Most important - you talk with people who you know, no anonymous conversations here. And you talk with only the people you want to, no free-for-alls, unless you choose so.
What is the difference between using Rediff Bol and email?
Speed. With Rediff Bol, you can start exchanging messages as soon as your contact list comes online. You dont need to wait for the recepient to check the mail and then post a reply to you.
How is Rediff Bol different from other Instant Messengers?
In many ways.
You can download the software from here. It is a very small file size (164K). Now locate the bolsetup.exe file and click on it. This will install the Messenger in your system.
How do I register for this service?
You register to Rediff Bol by either registering with Rediffmail, or by using the "click here to sign up" button on the log in window. You could also register from here .
How do I log in to Rediff Bol?
You can log into Rediff Bol using your Rediffmail User name and Password. If you do not have an account, get one here.
How do I connect using Rediff Bol?
First find a computer with Rediff Bol installed (or you could download it from here), and connected to the Internet. Now all you need to do is log in with your Rediffmail User Name and Password. And you are connected. A green indicator will appear at the bottom of the screen, indicating you are online.
What is the link between Rediff Bol and RediffMail? What User name, Password should I use to log in?
Both Bol and Rediffmail share the same information. So if you are registered with RediffMail, you can access Bol and vice versa. You can use your Rediffmail User name and Password for logging into Bol.
If I am a RediffMail user, do I need to register again?
No, if you're already using RediffMail, you do not need to register again. Just key in your RediffMail Username and Password into the Login screen and you're connected.
Can I access my Rediff Bol from anywhere?
Yes. You can log in from any machine connected to the Internet anywhere in the world. Your contact list will be restored immediately.
How do I send instant messages?
Once you have added a friend (link to how to add a friend) to your contact list, his name will be displayed in your online list as soon as he is online. To exchange instant messages, just doubleclick on your friend's name. You may also rightclick on his name and choose an appropriate option for exchanging messages.
How do I check my mail with Rediff Bol?
Just click on the "mail" icon. It will take you to your Rediffmail inbox straight away.
No friends on Rediff Bol? Don't worry. Make friends with the new
"Need a Friend" feature. Just enter your preference of age, gender and
location, and Rediff Bol will hundreds of friends for you.
Click on the "Need a Friend" button on the main window. Select your
preference of age, gender and location and hit the “Go!” button.
Rediff Bol will search through its member directory and display results
matching your requirements.
A green circle against the username indicates that the user is currently
online, while a red circle indicates that the user is either offline or
is not a Rediff Bol user.
You can send out an invitation to chat to any of displayed results by
clicking on the invite button at the bottom left of the window.
How do I Add users to my list?
Click on the "add user" icon (image) and find the people you want to include in your list. You can also search for user by first name, last name and city in out Rediffmail Directory.
Can someone add me to their list without my permission?
No. You must explicitly authorise every person who adds you to his/her list.
How do I look for my friends with Rediff Bol?
You can look for all your friends having Rediffmail accounts. Use the "add user" facility to search for rediffmail users by first name, last name and city. If your friend is registered with Rediffmail, we will send him/her an invitaion in your name. If he/she is using Rediff Bol, he/she can add you to his/her list right away, and you are ready to talk. If your friends are not on Bol, they will need to log in and add you to their contact lists.
How do I delete users from my list?
Right click on the user you want to remove from your list, and select the "delete" option. the deleted user will get a message that he/she has been removed from your list.
Conferencing allows multiple users to chat simultaneously with each other in the same window. Just click on the "conferencing" option and select the users you want to add in the discussion.
How do I use multiple languages?
Presently we offer 4 Indian languages. Once you start exchanging messages, you will see a "language" option on top of the message window. Click on this option and select the language of your choice. Start typing the words as they would sound in English, and the software will automatically display them in the selected script. You can keep altering your language as you type. Like Hindi - English - Hindi.
What is "invisible mode" mean?
This facility allows you to log on without anyone knowing that you are online.
How do I save a "conversation"?
You can save your conversations locally (in your hard disk or a floppy disk) using the "save" option. Click on the "file" option on top of your message window, and select "save". You will be asked where you want to save the transcript of your conversation in text format. Specify the location. Now you can read the conversation even when you are not connected to the Internet.
If a user is blocked by you, he/she will not be able to send you messages.
Select the user you want to block, and click on the "block" icon.
How do I unblock / allow a blocked user?
Select the user you want to unblock, and click on the "allow" icon.
Can I find people with similar interests with Rediff Bol?
We do not provide this option in this version. But we will be introducing this feature shortly.
How do I uninstall Rediff Bol?
You can uninstall Rediff Bol by clicking on the Windows "Start" button, and selecting "Settings". Now chose "Control Panel" and select "Add/Remove Programs". Now scroll down and locate Rediff Bol, select it and click on the "Add/Remove" button. Rediff Bol will be uninstalled from your system.
Proxy server acts as an intermediary between the users and the Internet. The Proxy server
also seperates the office network (LAN) from the outside Internet.
To configure your proxy server for Rediff Bol, ask your system administrator for the
IP address and port of the server or click on the 'Auto Detect' button.
Socks (or "SOCKS") is a protocol that the Proxy server uses to accept requests from the
user (You) and forwards it to the Internet and vice versa. As the socks server usually
works with a firewall, a username and password authentication is required. Consult your
system administrator for further help.
SOCKS 5 is the latest version of the SOCKS protocol.
How do I configure Rediff Bol to work behind a proxy?
Step#1: Choose Edit from the menu in the main Rediff Messenger window
The main Messenger window shows "Connecting", but nothing happens. Why?
This might happen if you are behind a proxy on a corporate network or LAN. In this case, click on "Edit" in the file menu in the main window. Then select "Preferences". Next, select the "Connection" tab. Enter your proxy settings, your server IP and the port number. You might also be required to give your SOCKS username and password. If you're not sure about the settings, you will need to approach your system administrator for help. |
