1998 was Rani's year. It began with Vikram Bhatt's Ghulam, where she was paired opposite Aamir Khan.

The chartbusting number Aati kya Khandala brought her instant popularity as the Khandala girl.

Ghulam's performance was followed by her sugar 'n' spice act in Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. As the hard-to-get Tina Malhotra, Rani managed to steal both Shah Rukh Khan and the audiences' hearts.

The smash success of both these films also proved that Rani could hold her own against established artistes like Aamir, SRK and Kajol.
