Thane court issues summons to Bal ThackerayShiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and two others have been issued summons by the Thane court, in a case filed against them by a police inspector. The Thane first class judicial magistrate, M M Potdar, after perusing the complaint, issued the orders for summons to be issued on the Sena chief, Sanjay Raut ,executive editor of Saamna and Subhash Desai, printer and publisher of the Marathi daily, which is returnable on January 18, 1999. The inspector, in his complaint, which he said he filed after he found that Maharashtra Director General of Police Arvind Inamdar was not taking any cognisance of his representations, said the paper had published an article in which baseless allegations had been made against himself, the then DIG of Thane range Ulhas D Joshi and the DSP, Thane, C Prabhakar. In his complaint filed under Sections 500, 501 and 502 read with Section 34 of the IPC, the complainant told the court he was suspended while he was attached to the state CID crime branch due to allegations against him that he was instrumental for causing injury to a person on his left ear. He pointed out to the court that an article was published in Saamna edited by the accused, Bal Thackeray on March 23, 1997 under the title 'Khakhi varditle Kalpnath Rai', and the said article was the subject matter of the case. After reading the entire article one gets an impression that he (since his name has been specifically mentioned) is not a police officer in the true spirit but a person notorious in character, a corrupt officer and anti-social element in uniform who has acted against the interest of the society, state, nation and who is dangerous than Bhai Thakur, Dawood Ibrahim etc, he told the court.
