Thakre has no problem with allies's demands

"We will accept the demands of our allies so long as they are not against the interests of the nation," said Bharatiya Janata Party president Kushabhau Thakre. "In a democracy, there are always differences between allies. And you cannot except all the parties to have a similar ideology on different issues."

Thakre was talking to the media in Bombay on Thursday after a two-day chintan baithak (brainstorming session) of top BJP state leaders at Karnala in Panvel.

He strongly denied reports that a resolution demanding the ouster of Maharashtra chief minister was passed at the meeting.

"Our discussion concentrated only on strengthening our base in the state and an evaluation our performance," he said.

Moving on to other topics, when asked to comment on Tamil Nadu's law and order situation, he said, "The situation was not good. " However, he quickly added that the law and order situation in Bihar and Tripura was also bad, and it was for the Centre to take a decision about imposing President's rule in states.

Thakre also felt that the law and order situation in Maharashtra was far better than that of other states, in spite of the fact that Bombay witnesses an average of a killing a day.

Referring to the Congress's demand to send a central team to study the law and order situation in Maharashtra, he said, "There is nothing to fear. If a team is sent, they will know only the truth."

The brainstorming session decided to extend the party base in different areas with the support of their alliance partners, and the programme is called as ' Krutin Karyakaram'.

Among other things which was discussed at the meet was the need to highlight the achievements of the state as well as the central governments.

"In the bye-election in Satara, Rahudi and Kagal, all Congress strongholds, the alliance gained a significant victory. So, we should highlight these things," Thakre added.

Commenting on the ongoing temple construction activities at Ayodhya and in other places, he said Ayodhya was not on the BJP's agenda and refused to comment on Vishwa Hindu Parishad's stand that the temple would be constructed in three years.

"The construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya is not in the agenda of the BJP-led alliance government," he added.

Referring to the defeat of congress candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections, he said it was evident that intense factionalism had cost the congress dearly and the show of unity during the Lok Sabha elections was only temporary.

The BJP state leaders also felt that the government has become more appealing to the people as various sections of the society were given adequated representation in the cabinet reshuffle.

It was also decided in the meeting that the party MLAs including ministers would hold 'Janata Darbars' and convey the problems of people to the government.
