Fugitive's father gets police custody in cheating caseAdditional metropolitan magistrate D R Bhonsale today ordered 15 days police custody for Abdullah Sirguru Konkani, father of dreaded fugitive criminal Firoze Konkani, for cheating a woman to the tune of Rs 60,000. Abdullah was already in a local police station jail for alleged role in his son Firoze's escape from JJ hospital in central Bombay amid a shoot-out which cost a head constable's life last month. The court was told that Abdullah had befriended a middle-aged woman, Khirunissa Abdul Patel whose son and husband were undergoing a life sentence for murder. She had gone in appeal against the conviction, and Abdullah Konkani promised to organise their release at the cost of Rs 60,000 which was paid early this year. Later he refused to do anything about it and threatened to kill her if she revealed this bargain to anyone. The woman kept her mouth sealed, but after Abdullah's arrest she mustered enough courage to inform the police about the deceit. Abdullah was re-arrested on this count. UNI |
