60 school children arrestedAbout 60 students and their teachers of the Khilnani school in Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi's constituency, Dadar, were taken into custody when they tried to get into the council hall while the state legislature session was in progress. The students, who proceeded toward the council hall in a procession, shouted slogans against the closure of their school. Security officials immediately closed all entrance points, and police personnel arrested the demonstrators. The issue was raised in the legislative council. Opposition leader Chhagan Bhujbal demanded the release of the arrested. Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, who also holds the home portfolio, ordered the police to free the boys and teachers. Recently, Bhujbal had alleged that Joshi closed down the Khilnani school in connivance with a builder. The chief minister had denied the allegation. UNI
