16 of marriage party killed in collision near NagpurSixteen people of a marriage party were killed and 32 were injured when a truck carrying them overturned near Maregaon in Yavatmal district, 160 km from Nagpur in Maharashtra, in the wee hours of today. Yavatmal collector Rajiv Jalota said there were as many 92 people on the truck. Most of them were tribals (Kolams) and were returning after the marriage ceremony at Rohapat in Maregon tehsil of the district. He said all the injured were brought to Yavatmal and admitted to the government medical college there. The condition of two of them was stated to be serious. Sources said the driver of the overcrowded truck lost control while approaching a bridge, causing it to skid and overturn. About financial relief, Jalota said under the national family scheme, the next-of-kin got Rs 10,000 if the earning member of a family below poverty line was the victim. Apart from this, such a family was entitled to get Rs 3000 from the insurance company, he added. UNI
