Thackeray against simultaneous LS, assembly pollsShiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray has opposed any move to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and Maharashtra assembly polls in September-October. In a statement in Shiv Sena newspaper Saamna, he said the Election Commission should not press for simultaneous LS and assembly elections. He preferred assembly elections in the state in March 2000, when the term of the present government expires. However, Chief Minister Narayan Rane has favoured simultaneous LS and assembly elections as the situation is 'favourable' to the alliance. But, he has left the final decision to the Sena-BJP leadership. UNI
