Bal Thackeray pleads 'not guilty' in contempt case

E-Mail this report to a friend

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and two others today pleaded ''not guilty'' before Additional Chief Metropolitian Magistrate A A A Kidwai in Bombay in response to a contempt petition filed by the city unit president of the Samajwadi Party, Abu Asim Azmi.

Barely half an hour after Thackeray made an appearance in the court, the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse an irate mob of Sainiks who were obstructing the vehicle carrying Azmi.

The Bombay High Court had issued directions to Thackeray to attend the proceedings of the case.

The case is related to an allegedly defamatory article against Azmi published in the Shiv Sena mouth-pieceSaamna which is edited by Thackeray.
