Bombay grounded by rains againOur Correspondent Normal life was disrupted on Wednesday morning, for the second time this season in Bombay city, following incessant rains. Railway services were affected following water-logging along the tracks. According to a Central Railway spokesperson, the harbour line service between Bandra and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (VT) was hit. The Central Railway main line service was running an hour late. Services on the fast track were affected following water-logging on the tracks. Areas hit by water-logging included Bhandup, Kurla, Masjid Bunder Mulund and Vidyavihar. Western Railway trains were not operating beyond Bandra. Several incidents of trees crashing down on the roads and short circuits were reported. Road traffic came to a standstill due to flooding in many areas. The Western Express highway was flooded knee-deep at many points. The Andheri, Dahisar, Milan and Khar subways were closed this morning, following flooding. Flights out of the city departed nearly 45 minutes late. However, there was no cancellation of flights. Meanwhile, the weather bureau has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in the form of more or less continuous showers, accompanied with strong, gusty winds. Rainfall recorded this morning was: Colaba: 162.7 mm and Santa Cruz:81.0 mm. A warning has also been issued to fishermen not to venture out in the sea. |
