Accused threatens suicide in Bombay court: PTIIn a bizarre incident, an accused facing a robbery charge in Bombay, threatened to commit suicide in a sessions court on Friday unless his case was transferred to another judge for conducting the trial. The accused, Papu Bhosale, holding a blade in hand, told a constable sitting beside him in the dock that he would cut open his throat if the judge did not transfer his case to another court. The court was being presided over by additional sessions judge, V C Singh, who was examining a witness on the first day of the trial. On a query by the judge, the constable got up to say that the accused was threatening to commit suicide. Thereupon the judge instructed the cops not to touch him. He politely told the accused to come to the witness box and say whatever he desired. Initially, Papu was reluctant but later he stepped into the witness box holding the blade close to his neck. The accused told the judge that he would commit suicide unless his case was adjourned for four months and later transferred to another court. The judge sought the view of public prosecutor Ramnath Kini, who opined that such threats should not be considered because Papu's case had been assigned to the court for trial. However, the judge felt that it be proper if the matter was referred to the Principal Judge A S Aguair for his ruling. Accordingly, the papers were sent to the chief's court.
