Croc found beheaded in Nandankanan zooClose on the heels of the mysterious death of twelve tigers in the Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneshwar, an adult salt water crocodile was found beheaded inside his enclosure early Thursday. The incident came to light when a zoo keeper entered the crocodile enclosure on a routine visit. To his dismay, he noticed the crocodile lying in a pool of blood. The head of the crocodile was missing. The crocodile (Spectacle Kimorie) was born in the zoo to a pair of rare crocodiles brought from South America in exchange for white tigers. Incidentally, the incident occurred on the day when a new director joined the zoo after former director B C Prusty was transferred following a hue and cry over the death of tigers in the first week of this month. No senior wildlife official was available to give details. However, sources said this could be the handiwork of the inhouse staff as no outsider could dare to enter the saltwater crocodile enclosure. The zoo authorities have informed the police and investigations were on. Official sources said the body of the crocodile had been sent for post-mortem. EARLIER REPORT
