Notice served on BMC unions over 'illegal' strike

The notice comes in the wake of a public outcry over a water crisis that lasted for two days (October 12 and 13) caused due to the strike resorted to by the BMC employees' unions Kruti samiti under the leadership of Sharad Rao over the issue of bonus.

Talking to reporters in Bombay, Ranganathan said BMC was collecting information on all incidents, including sabotage of water supply to some parts of the city. "Action will be taken against the guilty," he said.

Replying to a question on whether the administration will accept the resolution adopted by the civic House three days back on payment of 65 per cent bonus, Ranganathan said, "Only today (Monday) afternoon, our officers received the resolution and we will take some decision on it on Tuesday."

Meanwhile, Sharad Rao told reporters that the Kruti Samiti had lodged a complaint with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh demanding a judicial enquiry into the water crisis that hit Bombay following the civic strike. He claimed that the agitating civic workers were not responsible for the water crisis.

In response to this, Ranganathan said, "I have not received any communication from either the Union or the state government."

"If someone makes allegations against senior BMC officials, let him give evidence and facts supporting them," he said.
