Rail services hit after collision in Bombay

Rail traffic on the harbour section of Central Railway was paralysed following the collision of a goods train with a light engine between Kurla and Chunabhatti stations late on Wednesday night.

The railway control room said that the accident occurred at 0040 hours IST, disrupting services. Restoration work was on when reports last came in.

A railway spokesperson said that services are likely to be restored by afternoon

Railway sources said that two couple engines and a light engine derailed, but were unable to state the cause of the accident. Sources added that they are investigating the mishap.

Services on the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus-Kurla route are likely to resume at 1400 hours IST. Trains are running normal on the CST-Bandra harbour line.

Many peak hour commuters switched over to Central Railway's main line from Kurla station.

Thousands were stranded at Kurla, Chunabhatti, Guruteg Bahadur Nagar and Wadala stations.
