13 killed in Bhandara road mishap

Thirteen people, including five members of a family, were killed when a Tata Sumo, in which they were travelling, collided with a truck at Bhuyar village near the Pauni diversion on the state highway in Bhandara district, when they were fast asleep early on Sunday.

The police said that the vehicle was carrying 14 passengers, from Bhadrawati in Chadrapur district, to Bambleshwari Devi at Dongargarh, when it collided with a truck. Eleven passengers were killed on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries at the Pauni hospital.

The mishap occurred when the Tata Sumo driver, one of the deceased, lost control of the vehicle. The truck driver is absconding.

Police have registered a case and investigations are on.
