Yet another tremor rattles Koyna: PTIYet another quake of slight intensity rattled Koyna region in Maharashtra at around 13.51 hours IST on Wednesday, even as parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh were recovering from the impact of a mild quake on Tuesday. The quake measured 3.5 on the Richter scale with its epicentre at latitude 17.3 degree north and longitude 73.77 degree east in Koyna region in Satara district of the state, a spokesman of the India Meteorological Department told PTI in Pune. Koyna hydro-electric project chief engineeer N Huddar said their seismic monitoring station at Koyna has also indicated the tremor at the same time. ''We are yet to study the seismograph, but our micro-earthquake measuring instruments indicate seismic phenomena at 13.51 hours,'' he said. This is the third quake which has rattled the region this month and has created a fear pyschosis among people, bringing back memories of the devastating earthquake in September 1993 which killed over 8000 persons in Killari and surrounding areas in Marathwada region of the state. Koyna, in the highly seismic zone, experiences maximum tremors in Maharashtra. In 35 years, the region has faced more than one lakh tremors of which nearly 80 were above the magnitude of four on the Richter scale and seven were above the intensicy of five on the scale.
