Bombay passport office employees strike work

E-Mail this report to a friend

The employees of the regional passport office in Bombay on Monday joined the token strike call given by the All India Passport Employees Association and struck work in protest against privatisation and in support of their long pending demands.

While supporting the introduction of printer for automation and modernisation of the organisation to bring Indian passport services at par with international standards, the AIPEA warned that the legitimate interests of employees and security aspects should not be ignored.

The work of printing of passport had been given to private firms on a three-year contract though employees could handle the same after a brief training stint, a spokesperson for the agitating employees said.

Applicants and visitors had to face a lot of hardship as there was no prior information about the strike call.

The employees are also protesting against the slow promotion procedures.
