Near total bandh in Nashik

Nashik city witnessed a near total bandh as all the main modes of transport, shops, markets, cinema halls, commercial establishments, industrial units participated in the bandh called by trade unions, Left parties and the Shiv Sena in protest against the economic policies of the NDA government.

The bandh received tremendous response with everyone from the industrial units to streetwise vendors participating in the bandh.

Employees of the Maharashtra State Electricity Board, however, were working wearing black badges while attendance was thin in other sectors. Petrol pumps also participated in the bandh, which automatically put the few private vehicles that were running off the roads.

Hoteliers and co-operative banks remained closed.

Police said that no untoward incident was reported from the city and other areas and heavy security arrangements have been made.
