Mixed response to bandh in Maharashtra

The bandh called by trade unions, the Shiv Sena and Left parties to condemn the economic reform policies of the NDA government at the Centre has received a partial response in Maharashtra.

No untoward incident was reported so far and the situation was totally under control in the state. According to reports received in Bombay from various centers, the bandh received mixed response.

The bandh, which paralysed normal life of citizens in Bombay and elsewhere in the state, has been largely peaceful barring incidents of disruption of rail services in Bombay and stone pelting outside industrial units in Pune besides morchas and dharnas staged in Kolhapur, Nashik and other places in the state.

In coastal Ratnagiri and Thane city, there was a complete bandh while in Pune and Buldhana it was near total while Dhule, Nashik, Sindhudurg, Washim, Aurangabad reported a partial bandh.
