According to police sources, the dead included Daljit Choudhary, proprietor of Poonam Plast Industry located in Rocky Industrial Estate in Goregaon (east), his brother Devji Choudhary, a relative and five labourers whose identities are yet to be established.
Unknown assailants first murdered the five labourers, beginning on Wednesday night, while Daljit was killed early on Thursday morning. The two others were strangled subsequently after 0930 hours (IST).
Police said that Daljit received a phone call early on Thursday morning at 0515 hours, from unknown persons, asking him to come to the company immediately.
When he did not return home, his brother Devji, accompanied by another relative, went to the company premises.
Their bodies were later discovered by a raw material supplier who immediately informed the police.
Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Bhujangrao Mohite said combing operations had begun and the entire area had been cordoned off.
Even the vehicles passing through the area were being checked.
Local legislator Gajanan Kirtikar also rushed to the spot.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the sources said.
Police suspect 'internal rivalry' to be behind the killings and investigations are on.
The owners hailed from Rajasthan while the labourers were from Rajasthan and Punjab.
