Shiv Sena to move Bombay HC against
Srikrishna report implementation

The Shiv Sena would move the Bombay High Court next week, challenging the Democratic Front (DF) government's decision to implement the report of the Srikrishna Commission, that probed the 1992-93 communal riots and subsequent serial bomb blasts in the metropolis in the aftermath of the Babri mosque demolition.

The decision was taken at a special meeting of Sena leaders held in Bombay on Friday to fine tune the party's strategy over the issue. The meeting was presided over by Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra assembly Narayan Rane.

"The sovereign legislature has already rejected the report and its decision could be reversed only with the permission of the House," Rane told reporters after the meeting.

The DF cabinet's decision to implement the Srikrishna Commission report is 'illegal', Rane said. "It was nothing but a step clearly aimed at wooing the minorities and was 'unjust' to the majority Hindu population," the Sena leader alleged.

In an attempt to create public awareness over the issue, the Sena would come out with a booklet in all languages, Rane said.

The Sena's stance during the communal disturbances in Bombay following the Babri demolition was 'appreciated' by the people of the state and reflected in the elections that saw the Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance assuming power, he said.
