Dressed in traditional Manipuri attire, thousands of people marched in parts of the sub-divisional town of Dharmanagar on Thursday evening and shouted slogans against the Centre's decision to extend the ceasefire beyond Nagaland.
A six-member delegation led by the president of the Tripura Manipuri Solidarity Action Committee (TMSAC) Y Gopika submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar through the sub-divisional officer demanding withdrawal of the ceasefire signed on June 14 between the Centre and National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Issac-Muivah).
Copies of the memorandum were sent to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Union Home Minister L K Advani and Manipur Governor Ved Prakash Marwah.
No untoward incident was reported during the protest rally, police said.
