Stung by the tehelka expose, the BJP Friday accused senior Congress leader Arjun Singh of formenting trouble for the Vajpayee government.
The BJP media cell used tehelka.com editor in chief Tarun Tejpal's connections with Singh to attack him.
In a one-page press release the BJP media cell raised nine questions about the credentials of Tejpal and the motives behind the expose.
The following are some of the questions:
Isn't it true that Tejpal's father was a close associate of Arjun Singh?
Isn't it true that Tejpal and his father were close to Singh when he was Governor of Punjab.
Isn't it true that Tejpal used to look after the publicity department of Tewari Congress of which Arjun Singh was the president.
Isn't it true that Manoj Prabhakar agreed to contest Lok Sabha election from South Delhi in the mid-nineties at the instance of Tarun Tejpal? The latter also used Prabhakar as a weapon to target Indian cricket, though in the end Prabhakar was also found guilty.
Isn't it true that Tejpal was used by Arjun Singh to launch a campaign against Narsimha Rao?
Isn't tehelka reporter Mathew Samuel a close associate of Tom Vadakkam, in-charge of the Congress media cell?
Attempts to contact Tarun Tejpal proved futile. Aniruddha Bahal, one of the reporters instrumental in the expose, said the whole thing was too frivolous to deserve any comment.
