Concerned over the violence in Malegaon, Congress is sending three senior leaders -- Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes and Ahmed Patel -- to the powerloom town in Maharashtra on Saturday for an on-the-spot study of the situation.
Maharashtra PCC President Govindrao Adik said party president Sonia Gandhi had planned to visit Malegaon during her tour of Maharashtra earlier this week, but was advised against it by police for security reasons.
Adik, who will accompany the observers to Malegaon, parried questions whether the Vilasrao Deshmukh government had handled the situation in Malegaon satisfactorily.
"It is very difficult to say anything at this stage. Now is the time to establish peace," he said.
Asked about the veiled criticism by All India Congress Committee minority cell chairman A R Antulay about Deshmukh government's handling of the situation, he said Antulay may have got some feedback.
