Probe to be ordered into Kalyan riots

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said on Thursday that a magisterial inquiry would be ordered into the violence in Kalyan, which claimed six lives.

The city had witnessed arson and looting following the murder of Ashok Walunj, a Bajrang Dal activist, on Tuesday night.

Bhujbal, who visited Kalyan on Thursday, said those responsible for the violence would not be spared.

He dismissed the Shiv Sena's demand for the arrest of Nationalist Congress Party corporators "for being responsible for the riots".

Senior police officers, including Police Commissioner S M Shangari and Joint Commissioner Ambalal Verma, were camping at Kalyan.

Three companies of the State Reserve Police and a couple of companies of the Rapid Action Force were assisting the police in maintaining law and order.
