Tension in Bhiwandi following Bajrang Dal leader's killing

Our Correspondent in Mumbai

Tension prevails in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra following the gunning down on Wednesday of Lalit Jain, chief of the Bajrang Dal's Bhiwandi unit.

Jain was shot dead at 1145 hours (IST) by unidentified assailants, while he was on his way to court, police said. The deceased was an advocate, they said.

Shops and other business establishments immediately downed shutters.

As a precautionary measure, Section 144 (preventing assembly of more than five persons in public places) has been imposed in Bhiwandi and security reinforced, police sources said.

No arrests have been made in this connection, police said.
