Salman given permission to shoot abroad

Syed Firdaus Ashraf in Mumbai

Actor Salman Khan got permission to go abroad with the police returning his passport on Friday.

The actor had earlier filed an application in this regard with the investigating officer, his lawyer H S Anand said.

He will be leaving for New Zealand to shoot for the film Tere Naam directed by Satish Kaushik. Salman is likely to leave on November 22 and has told the police that he will be back by December 6.

The actor, before being released on bail on October 24, was told by the court to deposit his passport with the police and seek their permission if he wanted to go abroad for work.

The court had also ordered Salman not to contact any of the witnesses and those hurt in the accident, while bail.

He has been charged with killing one person and injuring four in a hit-and-run case

In a related development, a magistrate will hear on November 16 Salman's plea for return of the Toyota Land Cruiser involved in the mishap. According to the actor, the vehicle had not been transferred in his name.

The police objected to Salman's plea for the return of the vehicle saying it did not belong to him, but to Abdul Rahman.

Salman's lawyer had informed the court that Abdul Rahman may appear on November 16.

He was arrested on the same day and released on bail. Later he was re-arrested under a more serious offence, culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
