Salman case: Probe blames police for
lack of coordination

The probe into the hit-and-run case involving Salman Khan has blamed police officials for "lack of coordination and vigilance", Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said in Mumbai on Thursday.

However, Joint Commissioner of Police Ahmad Javed, who conducted the probe, has not recommended any action against officials of the Bandra police station, Bhujbal, who also holds the home portfolio, said.

Javed, who was directed by Bhujbal to conduct a probe into the entire affair, as the handling of the case had come under intense media attack, has "named deputy commissioner of police, assistant commissioner of police, senior police inspector and investigating officer in his report".

The report said the police officials could have "coordinated better" and have applied more "stringent laws" against the actor, Bhujbal said.

Salman, who was released on a bond of Rs 950 soon after the accident, was later booked by the police under 304 (a) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

There is no mention of intervention from any minister during the investigations, Bhujbal added.

Leader of Opposition Narayan Rane had alleged that the actor was released following a phone call from a minister.
