Differences between Deshmukh, Adik come to fore

The feud between Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilas Deshmukh and Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Adik came to the fore on Wednesday with the two leaders sharply differing on the performance of the Democratic Front government.

Adik said in Nagpur that the government's performance was "disappointing" and would not fetch votes in next assembly polls.

"Grassroots party workers are complaining against the functioning of the government and some ministers," the MPCC chief said.

Later, speaking to reporters separately, Deshmukh took strong exception to Adik's statement and said, "Media is not the proper forum for discussing such matters in the larger interest of the party. I do not subscribe to Adik's view."

Deshmukh said he would prefer a discussion about the government's performance at the coordination committee set up by the Congress high command.

The two were in Nagpur for the All India Congress Committee's session for party legislators from across the country.
