Rajdhani accident toll touches 125

The toll in Monday night's derailment of the Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani Express in Aurangabad district in Bihar has mounted to 125, senior police officials said.

The figures provided by the railways, however, put the toll at 105.

The toll was likely to rise as rescue workers continued to extricate bodies from badly mangled bogies of the train on Thursday, over 50 hours after it met with one of the worst railway accidents in Bihar.

Officials at the site said two bogies hanging from the bridge over the river Dhave, where the derailment took place, have several bodies trapped inside.

About 120 bodies have so far been recovered. Around 10 injured passengers are reported to have succumbed in hospitals in Gaya, Aurangabad and Rafiganj in the past two days. However, these are unconfirmed figures.

Over 25 bodies are lying unclaimed at the Rafiganj station since Wednesday morning.

Eastern Railway officials said there were 526 passengers and 53 railway employees on board the derailed train.
