One killed as part of building collapses
in Mumbai

Priyanka Jain in Mumbai

One person was killed and four injured when a portion of a five-storeyed building, Bharat Bhawan, collapsed onto the ground floor in Kalbadevi area of south Mumbai on Friday night.

The injured were admitted to G T Hospital, sources said.

Raj Purohit, Bharatiya Janata Party legislator from Mumbadevi, used to be one of its residents. He had shifted out two years ago but often visited the building.

The repairs board had declared the building unsafe, but the other residents did not have any place to go, he said.

The building is 75-years-old and has undergone repairs thrice, Purohit told rediff.com
