This is her second visit to the shrine, 200 km from Dehradun in the Garhwal Himalayas, within a fortnight.

She took a palanquin from Gorikund, 14 km from Kedarnath. The temple, 3,581 m high in the Garhwal Himalayas, is one of Bharti's favourite sabbatical haunts. During her last visit, however, she mostly stayed at Madmaheshwar temple, another Shiv temple near Kedarnath.

Bharti was sacked as BJP general secretary and suspended from its primary membership following her public outburst at a meeting of the party's newly appointed office bearers.

Next day, Bharti wrote a defiant and emotional letter to BJP president Lal Kishenchand Advani, saying she had done nothing to invite disciplinary action.
